v-perfectSmile1Essure® is a minimally invasive form of birth control that serves as an alternative to tubal ligation. Using a transcervical tubal access catheter, your doctor can arrange micro-inserts of Essure into the fallopian tubes. These micro-inserts are designed to induce tissue growth in and around them, which will cause a blockage in the fallopian tubes preventing sperm from reaching the egg.

Recovery time is minimal. A 12-week follow up appointment is required, where an X-ray will be taken to confirm satisfactory results. It is encouraged to use other forms of contraception during this three month period. Essure has proven to be 99.8 percent effective in patients after a two-year follow up.
